"Nidaros Echoes" (Niðómar)

is a fixed-media work that uses live sounds that I recorded while living in Norway. It's been great fun composing this work, especially since it's been so many years since I've written in this particular medium. Inspired by the great structure of Nidarosdomen / Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, I felt compelled to write a piece that revealed secrets hiding in its dark stones, unlocking ancient sounds, and bringing a long and rich history to life.

The Sea - A Journey into the Mysterious Depths

is an immersive performance that takes the audience on a breathtaking journey beneath the surface of the ocean. Featuring original music by composer Hilmar Thordarson, a 360° film by visual artist Julian Norum, and live performance by the SiTron Ensemble, the work weaves together sound, moving images, and cutting-edge technology to create a powerful, multisensory experience.

This work had multiple performances that were sold out at the Trondheim planetarium during Kamfest, on September 25–26, 2025. The enthusiastic crowd witnessed this unique event, as they were invited to reflect on the beauty and fragility of our oceans, and on the importance of approaching nature with respect and care.

Black Obsidian Suite for Orchestra

Black Obsidian Suite was inspired by the ancient mysterious qualities of its namesake, or hrafntinna as it is called in Icelandic. Formed from volcanic fire, this luminous dark stone has long been believed to hold protective and visionary powers, evoking nature's hidden forces and fragile beauty.

Composed and orchestrated by Hilmar Thordarson in collaboration with Halldis Rønning, this suite is a symphonic adaptation of the concert-length immersive cross-disciplinary work titled Hrafntinna/Sort Glimmer, and was premiered at the Reykjavík Arts Festival at Harpa in 2022.

This work had its world premiere on August 13, 2025, at the Fartein Valen at the Stavanger Concert Hall with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra.
